How to Reach Zanskar

To reach the enchanting Zanskar Valley, you have a few options depending on your
starting point. Let’s explore the routes:

From Leh (Ladakh):
  • The most common route is via Kargil. You’ll travel approximately 230 kilometers from Kargil to Padum in Zanskar.
  • The road takes you through Suru Valley, crosses the Pensi La Pass, and offers stunning views. Expect a travel time of 10–12 hours1.
  • This route is ideal if you’re approaching Zanskar from Srinagar or Leh.
From Manali (Himachal Pradesh):
  • Drive to Darcha and cross the Shinku La Pass. Then continue via Kurgiakh and Purne to reach Padum in Zanskar
  • This new direct road, constructed by the BRO, reduces the Leh–Zanskar distance by 160 kilometers and travel time significantly
