About Pangong Lake

What is Pangong Lake?
  • Pangong Lake, also called Pangong Tso, is a stunning saltwater lake located in the Ladakh region of India. It sits at an impressive altitude of 4,350 meters (14,270 feet) and stretches for 134 kilometers (83 miles).
  • The lake is divided into five sublakes: Pangong Tso, Tso Nyak, Rum Tso (twin lakes), and Nyak Tso. Approximately 60% of its length lies in China, while the remaining 40% is in Indian-administered Ladakh.

  • Since Pangong Lake lies near the Sino-Indian border, tourists need an Inner Line Permit (ILP) to visit. Obtain this permit in Leh before your trip.
